The North Herts Guild of Singers is a happy and successful choir which has been going strong for more than 50 years. Based in Hitchin, we are one of the best-known and best-supported choirs in the area.

Choir members spent the autumn term rehearsing via Zoom and staged two successful At Home concerts. In November we performed Joseph Haydn’s oratorio ‘The Creation’ to pre-recorded learning tracks created by professional singers just for us, with music laid down on piano by our accompanist Colin Spinks. A recording of one of the choruses can be found under About/Listen. Then at the end of term we were joined by friends and family members for a wonderful Christmas concert and this time we produced a virtual recording of Away in a Manger, in a less familiar version. This is also available on About>Listen or you can hear it by following this link
During the spring term we sang the  Mozart Coronation Mass, Haydn's Te Deum and the Durante Magnificat, the last wonderful piece being new to many of us. We enjoyed a singthrough of all the music at our last rehearsal of the term.
Over the summer we shall be learning Madrigals, Partsongs and Great Cathedral Anthems, with another virtual recording hopefully to come.

WHy not come to one of our concerts?

We hope to be back singing and performing before too long. Our original programme has had to change. In March 2020 we were to sing Bach's great work, the B Minor Mass, accompanied by a baroque orchestra and some fine young soloists. It may be we'll have another go at that before too long. July last year was to bring Rossini's Petite Messe Solonelle (with piano and harmonium) and after that the diary was sadly a bit bare!

Until normal service can resume, the choir are having weekly online sessions with our MD and our accompanist. We are still together as a choir and learning new ways of making music until we can sing together in the same place.
