The North Herts Guild of Singers is a happy and successful choir which has been going strong for more than 50 years. Based in Hitchin, we are one of the best-known and best-supported choirs in the area.

This autumn we are working on Joseph Haydn’s famously buoyant oratorio ‘Creation’. In the words of our MD Harry Bradford, ‘the work is full of rousing choruses to learn which are certain to put a smile on your face and dispel those coronavirus blues’.

We have pre-recorded learning tracks created by professional singers just for us, live Thursday night rehearsals with sectionals, and music laid down on piano by our accompanist Colin Spinks.

On the Saturday night for which we had planned a real concert we are having a virtual concert, and our soloists have already recorded their contributions. We have also recorded one of the choruses, which we hope to post on here. See our facebook page for pictures.

WHy not come to one of our concerts?

We hope to be back singing and performing before too long. Our original programme has had to change. In March we were to sing Bach's great work, the B Minor Mass, accompanied by a baroque orchestra and some fine young soloists. It may be we'll have another go at that before too long. July was to bring Rossini's Petite Messe Solonelle (with piano and harmonium). We are now hoping to be able to have some sort of performance at Christmas.

In the meantime, the choir are having weekly online sessions with our MD and our accompanist. We are still together as a choir and learning new ways of making music until we can sing together in the same place.
