Concert instructions November 2018
St Mary’s Church Hitchin, Saturday 17 November, 7.30pm

Rehearsal 2.00pm to 4.30pm

Be in the body of the church by 1.45pm. Section leaders will then call people up to the staging. Let your section leaders know in advance if you have any particular seating needs. Access to the stage before and during rehearsal needs to be via the edges, rather than through the orchestra.
Before the rehearsal begins, section leaders and the stage manager will check that everyone is in a suitable place and may move people.

Concert Dress
Men to wear DJs (or dark suit) with white shirt and black bow tie, ladies to wear long black skirt/trousers with black tops, long or ¾ length sleeves, and blue scarves. Black folders (available to hire or buy the Thursday before the concert) will be used, or you may cover your book in black paper. Scarves will also be on sale. No poppies.
Please be ready by 7.15pm for warm up. Sopranos and Tenors assemble in chapel on left (as you look at the altar). Altos and Basses assemble in chapel on right. Please carry folders so they are towards the audience. Sit when you arrive in your place. Stand when Stephen appears – designated people will lead the standing. Please take care – there are many trip hazards. Remember we always have at least one first aider present, at concerts and rehearsals.
Arvo Pärt: Cantus in Memoriam Benjamin Britten (orchestra)
Ralph Vaughan Williams: Dona nobis pacem
Gabriel Fauré: Cantique de Jean Racine
Gabriel Fauré: Requiem

It would be especially appreciated by the men if the ladies left the stage promptly. After the interval reassemble and lead on as before.
Applause - remain standing until Stephen leaves rostrum, and then sit. Applaud only when seated. Stephen may return if applause continues. At the end of the concert, when Stephen has taken his last bow, lead off as appropriate.
Sits and stands to be arranged – please follow Stephen. After the concert please make sure you return your books and any hired folders. It will be much appreciated by our stage team if you can stay and help clear up – many hands make light work.
