Guild seeks new Musical Director

The North Herts Guild of Singers is looking for a new Musical Director to take over in April 2019.

The new MD should be able to demonstrate the appropriate skills, training, and/or experience to lead us through rehearsals and concerts.
We need a good communicator who can take our rehearsals with humour, positivity and respect for individuals, and can continue to improve our performance and vocal skills through challenge and encouragement.

Expected remuneration over £6000 pa + reasonable rehearsal travel expenses.

We are looking for an MD who can:

  • Get the best out of our large non-auditioning choir through challenge and encouragement
  • Lead our rehearsals with humour, positivity and respect for individuals
  • Continue to improve our performance and vocal skills
  • Communicate well with the choir, with the committee and with our audience
  • Work collaboratively with the committee and build a good relationship with our accompanist
  • Demonstrate a good knowledge of suitable repertoire and suggest varied and interesting programmes
  • Lead us effectively through rehearsals and concerts

Job Description
The MD should have the appropriate knowledge and skills:

  • To lead the choir in weekly rehearsals, and have the ability to take a rehearsal without an accompanist when we need to rehearse in sections
  • To prepare the choir for concerts
  • To advise on suitable programmes
  • To work within the budget set by the Treasurer and committee
  • To conduct both choir and orchestra, as well as work with soloists, including an afternoon rehearsal on the day of the concert
  • To conduct occasional workshops and join us in a professional capacity when we tour abroad
  • To communicate with the committee and choir in a timely manner
  • To demonstrate good knowledge of the choral repertoire, both traditional and modern
  • To engage musicians, orchestras and soloists for concerts as required
  • To communicate effectively with the repetiteur
  • To find suitable deputies to cover absence
